Louis "Louie" R. LeClaire
, 85, Escanaba, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday October 5, 2010 surrounded by his loving family after a three year battle with ALS at Bishop Noa Home. He was born on December 6, 1924 to the late Eugene and Louise (Mailhot) LeClaire in Escanaba. On June 29, 1957 he married the former Shirley (Cannon) Karjala at St. Anne's Parish in Escanaba.

Louie entered the U.S. Army at age 19, proudly serving his country in the Tenth Mountain Division in Italy during WWII. He recieved a Purple Heart upon his honorable discharge. Louie remained very active with the Purple Heart organization and the Tenth Mountain Division throughout the rest of his life. He was also very active at St. Anne's Parish serving on different committees all his life. Louie loved playing the guitar and singing, especially at his camp, "The 40". He will be remembered most for his big smile, his generous spirit and riding his bicycle around town and for helping his neighbors and friends at Bishop Noa Home. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Louie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, two children: Amy (James) Wilson and David LeClaire, one brother: Leonard (Estelle) LeClaire, three sisters: Therese (John) Remski, Sr. Margaret LeClaire SSSF and Sr. Noel LeClaire SSSF, four grandchildren: Michael, Lisa, Anna and William Wilson as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Edward, Clifford, Lawrence and Francis LeClaire and one sister: Ceceil Sarasin.

Friends may call from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday (TODAY) October 7, 2010 at Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Escanaba with the Knights of Columbus leading the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. followed by the Delta County Veterans Council Rites. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday (TODAY) at St. Anne's Parish with Fr. Francis DeGroot officiating. A luncheon will follow Mass in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery on Friday at 10:00 a.m..

In Lieu of other expressions of sympathy, his family requests donations be made to the St. Vincent DePaul society of Escanaba.
