Richard “Rich” F. Mitchell, 82, of Wilson passed away on January 20, 2026 at his home. He was born on April 7, 1943, son of the late Richard and Eleanor (Annis) Mitchell in Chicago.
Rich moved to Michigan over 50 years ago and lived in Petoskey, Gaylord, Caspian, and his favorite, Wilson. He was a medic in the Air Force, worked several jobs, including the Social Security Administration, and he enjoyed substitute teaching in his retirement. Rich also enjoyed playing tennis, Scrabble, Chess, music, songwriting, walking and reading. He was a converted Packer fan and he enjoyed playing with Lizzie and George most of all.
He is survived by his wife: Sharon, sons: Richard (Leidyn) Mitchell, Robert (Kelly) Davis, Thomas (Wendy) Davis and John (Julie) Davis, daughter: Tami (Joseph) Moksyzcke, and grandchildren Elizabeth and George.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and his son: Robert Mitchell.
Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (CST) on Tuesday February 17, 2026 at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Spalding, MI, with Tony Revord American Legion Post #244 rites at 12:30 (CST). A celebration of life will follow at the funeral home on Tuesday with Fr. Rick Courier officiating.

"I will miss talking with my brother on birthdays and at Christmas time. We lived miles apart. He lived in Michigan and I with my family lived in South Dakota. Later we moved to North Carolina where we reside now. When we were growing up we didn’t have a lot to do with each other as we were 5 years apart. He was the older one but he always watched after me. Once when I was in 6th grade I was being bullied and he came to my defense. When I came home from Vietnam he was there at the airport welcoming me home. We drew close for a while until he moved to Michigan and I stayed in Chicago until I met my wife to be and then we moved to South Dakota. He came to visit us and we also visited him.
