Alfred “Melvin” Poquette, 80, Pembine, WI, was born in Hermansville, MI on September 12, 1932 to the late Violet (Ayotte) Poquette and Alfred “Fred” Poquette. While serving in the Air Force, he married his high school sweetheart of 59 years, the late Rita Smaglick on October 10, 1953 in Hermansville, MI. Together they have five children, Dale (Donna) Poquette, Valerie Reyment, Karen (Marvin) Gillis, David (Bonnie) Poquette and Donald (Regina) Poquette. This blessed them with eight grandchildren, Andrew J. Reyment, Ashley (Dan) Nelson, Heather (Nicholas) Hodkiewicz, Tiffany (Brian) Waskowiak, Jonathan (Special friend Kelly Zeman) Poquette, Brandon, Bryan and Danielle Poquette as well as four great-grandchildren, Ava and Evelyn Hodkiewicz, Beckham Nelson and Hank Waskowiak.
They lived in Sturtevant for 12 years before moving to Pulaski, where they raised their family, then retiring in Pembine. During this time he worked for JI Case in Racine and FMC in Green Bay.
Alfred's passion for life included family, friends, time spent at Camp Yabada, fishing, golfing, card playing and also enjoyed making new friends all over the world on his ham radio (K9ECG).
He was born to eternal life on Sunday August 25, 2013 and is survived by his children, brother Loren (Yvonne) Poquette and Bernard (Harriet) Poquette, sister-in-law Beverly Poquette, his sisters Evelyn (Jerry) Cappaert, Yvonne (Jack) Peterson and Gail (Jim) Cater. Also brothers-in-laws, Paul Smaglick, Wayne Lickman, Harlan “Joe” Lickman, and sister-in-laws Carol (Darrel) Post, Joyce (Frank) Sabo and Susie (Mike) Gustitus as well as nieces, nephews, and friends that have come and gone through the years – he gave them all a hard time.
Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Lester Poquette, son-in-law, Michael Reyment, brothers-in-law, William Lickman and Earl Lickman Jr., sister-in-law Joan Smaglick
Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. (CST) on Thursday August 29, 2013 at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Spalding, MI with the Floriano Stecker American Legion post #340 rites at 6:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. (CST) on Friday August 30, 2013 at St. John Neumann Church in Hermansville with Fr. Michael Vichich officiating. Burial will take place in the Meyer Township Cemetery after Mass. A luncheon will follow burial in the church parish hall.

"Hi, I worked with Al for many years at FMC Corp. and always enjoyed his smiling face and willingness to help out. He and I attended several safety seminars together and I more or less inherited the MSDS (material safety data sheet) program that he started, especially when the company sold half of the business to Sasib Packaging in 1995. I wish I would have known that Al was at the hospital and hospice here as I am sure I would have made the attempt to stop by and see him. I lost my dad this past March to esophogeal cancer. He was 87. I know you all will miss him, but we have to believe that they are with our moms again and through our God living eternal life.
