Eileen "Maggie" M. Nelson, 71, Cornell, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday February 6, 2011 at her home. She was born on May 4, 1939 in Escanaba, the daughter of the late Walter and Leah (Brunette) Young. On June 1, 1957 she married Adolph Nelson Jr. at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock.

Maggie loved being in the outdoors, gardening and feeding the birds, and also loved cooking, baking, canning and especially hosting her annual 4th of July party for all of her friends and family. Her favorite past time was spending time with and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by her family and friends as someone who was fun to be around and "the life of the party".

Eileen is survived by her husband of 53 years, her two children: Scott (Kathy) Nelson and Brenda (Jim) Owens, one brother: Harold (Sally) Young, two sisters: Germaine Kluz and Delima Bordeau, three grandchildren: Jeremy (Ashlei) Nelson, Dan (Tiffany) Nelson and Leah Owens, two great-grandchildren: Caitlin Kregelka and Brayden Nelson as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers: Raymond, Clarence, Richard and Norman Young.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday February 9, 2011 at Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Escanaba with Parish Prayers at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday February 10, 2011 at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock with Fr. John Tourangeau O.Praem. officiating and Fr. Jose Maramattam concelebrating. A luncheon will follow Mass in the Fr. Matt Hall. Burial will take place in the Escanaba Township Cemetery in the spring.
