Richard "Chum" H. Couchene

Richard "Chum" H. Couchene, 82, Escanaba (Danforth area), passed away on Thursday August 25, 2011 at Sunny View AFC where he was cared for by Julie and Gary Sexton for over 2 years. He was born on September 7, 1928 to the late Joseph and Rose (Thomma) Couchene in Kingsford, MI. On September 8, 1947 he married the former and late Doreen Goertzen at St. Joseph's Parish in Escanaba.
After serving his country in the U.S. Navy, Chum began his employment at the Mead Paper Mill, for over 40 years, until his retirement. He enjoyed deer hunting and many other outdoor activities.
Chum is survived by his three daughters: Sally Couchene, Judy Plutchak and Tracy (Gary) Branz, five grandchildren: Nichol, Eric, Bryan, Ellen and Sarah, five great-grandchildren: Henry, Sophia, Evalyn, Elliot and Zachary as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers: Ben and Kenny Couchene and one sister: Janet Couchene.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday August 30, 2011 at Gardens of Rest Cemetery with Fr. Jose Maramattam presiding. The Allo Coolman Funeral Homes are assisting the Couchene family.
